1978 American Indian Religious Freedom Act The law has been interpreted as essentially clarifying that First Americans have equal protection of the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Events
Bloomfield Academy The Chickasaw Nation opened the Bloomfield Academy for girls in 1852, near today’s town of Achille in Oklahoma’s Bryan County. It was among five boarding schools the Chickasaw Nation opened after first writing into law the foundation of a tribal academy called the Chickasaw Manual Labor Academy in 1844. Those other schools included the Collins Institute for boys as well as the Wapanucka and Burney Institutes for girls. Places
Adelaide (Johnson Campbell) Bond Adelaide Bond was the older sister of Montford Johnson. Her first marriage to Michael Campbell, Mary Elizabeth Johnson’s older brother, ended in his death. People

Council Grove Ranch In 1825, the Osage ceded the area north of the Canadian River to the United States. Part of this area was selected for the Creek and Seminole, who were removed from southeastern United States in the 1820s and 1830s. Places

Capt. Richard H. Pratt Richard Henry Pratt fought in the Civil War as a member of the Union army. He mustered out in 1865 but rejoined two years later, being commissioned a lieutenant, and rose to the rank of captain. People
Oklahoma College for Women When established in 1908, the Oklahoma College for Women, was originally called the Oklahoma Industrial Institute and College for Girls. Places
Pond Creek Ranch In 1886, E.B. Johnson established his ranch on Pond Creek, three miles from the South Canadian River. Places
Charles “Boggy” Johnson Charles “Boggy” Johnson was the father of Montford T. Johnson. Although not a First American, Charles Johnson came to Indian Territory during Chickasaw Removal with his Chickasaw wife, Rebekah Courtney. People
Chub Moore Chub Moore was a Chickasaw who originally brought orphans to be cared for to Montford Johnson’s ranch. People
Edward Bryant (E.B.) Johnson Edward Bryant (E. B.) Johnson was the eldest son of Montford Johnson. He spent his youth as an Indian Territory Chickasaw cowboy who went on to study business and engineering. People
Eula "Pearl" Carter Scott Pearl became the youngest pilot in the United States with her first solo flight in 1929. People
